Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Hi all. Well here goes....tonight will the first night in over a year that I won't be drinking...it's now 6pm local time here near in the UK and normally I would be cracking my first tinnie about now....the truth? the only thing that is stopping me going to the off licence to get beer is a severe lack of money....otherwise I'd be up there now...but really I've been talking about knocking the grog on the head for some time now...because it doesn't help my mental health issues and lately I have been feeling ill physically with it too...and it is costing me and my bloke way too much money!!!.....we calculated last night that we spend on average 80-90 pounds a week on the stuff....now that really is silly money in anyone's book isn't it?....and we don't have much money as it is as i am on disability and he is on a low wage... we skimp on food and necessities so we don't have to go without alcohol...he is just as bad as me....though it's usually me who drinks more than him...he will have 4 beers and something to eat while I will go up the shop after 4 beers and get another 4...then I am awake til the early hours then up at 6am to get my bloke off to work....he comes home at 6pm by which time I have usually already had 2 beers myself...repeat cycle...and weekends are evn worse...at least during the week I don't start drinking til 6pm but on a Saturday when my bloke has his day off work we start drinking at 1pm and by the time 4-5pm rolls around we are totally bollocksed...and it's the same on his other day off a Tuesday....now it's my bloke's birthday tomorrow and he has 2 days off now, tomorrow and Friday....and normally birthdays get very messy round here...but we've got to try to do things differently or we will end up in a lot of bother in every way imaginable...and no we won't go to AA, either of us...like I said before my only experience of it was a bad one and neither me or my bloke hold with the idea that God can save us from our drinking as he gave us free will and the ability to choose...ok little rant over lol...any support or advice welcome...
best

Fortunately, if you don't like AA you can still get and stay sober! You don't have to use AA and you don't have to go through a program. You do have to make a commitment to yourself and keep that commitment no matter what. I think success also comes with understanding what you need at different stages of sobriety and making sure you act accordingly.
