Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I tell you, no one feels good all the time, and if they do they are most likely high or manic! We need to relearn how to handle life, good, bad and the boring.
The things that have helped me are:
12 step program and AA which gave me tools to cope with things and to start to understand when to accept things, when to take action, and how to start to understand myself and what caused my feelings.
Time and experience - the more I have had emotions and coped, the more belief i have that i can cope with things and that they always pass.
Talking - I used to keep myself and my feelings hidden but I have found that it really helps to talk to someone who knows me and who I trust
Remembering that my feelings will not kill me but what I do about them might - someone told me this when I first got sober and it helps me to think about it sometimes.
Writing - sometimes helps to take the power out of things.
Therapy - I have needed a lot of therapy to deal with all the things that I didnt deal with and tried to run away from when i was drinking.
Things do get better if we try to deal with feelings constructively instead of trying to get rid of them, stop them or run away from them.
