I have suffered from depression for the past 11 years and have been an alcoholic for the past 6 years. I have been taking antabuse for the past year (during which time i have managed to drink a handful of times through missing tablets as well as once drinking whilst on it *shivers*),NOT good or clever things to do. I have noticed, however, that my depression seems to have been acutely worse while i have been taking antabuse and i wonder if there could be any link between the two??(ie antabuse and severity of depression) Given that it is generally my depression which drives me to drink in the first place,being more depressed whilst taking antabuse is hardly helpful.
I would love to feel a bit of the "old me" coming back but am not allowed to come off antabuse so i do feel very trapped.

I think it would be a wicked form of torture to take a pill knowing that you'll get deathly ill if you drink and using that as a deterrent.
I think I would be depressed & irritated as hell and it would just piss me off more knowing that I want to drink but that damn pill will make me sick if I do.
Have you considered maybe examining your self through maybe some therapy, counseling or the 12 steps? Learning & accepting & changing ME is what has helped me. I would hate to have to depend on a pill to deter me from drinking cause it's my mind that's messed up....that's what needs fixing and not just covered up with a "band aid".
