Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I stopped because I was supporting my son the alcoholic. Amazing how much more difficult it was than I had thought. The social thing, the relaxation thing...as a "normie" I came to realize that it is an easy way out for us, and not really healthy.
Did you know the word intoxicated comes from alcohol being toxic to our bodies? Try stopping for a month, or 6 and then see how you feel.
Andy, it's good your looking at changing habits. Exercise can help to let out some pent up frustrations. Boxing became a kinda meditation for me. But when all that stops, what may be causing that anger deep inside may still be there. Stick around and let us know how you go along the way. I'm glad you've found a friend to go to the gym with too. :}
He's yet to be wrong.
Good luck to you.

I would suggest seeing if you can just drink one glass of wine and be done. If you get agitated on two-that would seem the reasonable solution if you are not an alcoholic.
If you have a problem with your weekend drinking going past one glass-(as Nemo states the demons don't take off weekends), you may want to re-examine your situation.
I just want to stick to weekend drinks.
The gym is a good place to start, becuase when I work out I cut alcohol during the week. So a change of habits will be positive.
Peace!
A lady best said it in AA and it applied to me when she said that after 2 years of sobriety she thought she could control her drinking and wanted to test it. She did fine for several days of controlled drinking then went on a bender. Her conclusion spoke volumes to me when she said that for her she can control her drinking until she can't control it.
If your friends who drink are really your friends then they would not care if you did not drink. Good Luck with it.
Most people who don't have a drinking problem, could care less about intermingling with a group of people who do.
Maybe you do have a drinking problem that you have yet to admit to, or possibly you are a demon tormenting those who know they have a drinking problem -
Just saying........
Good luck mate.
I believe you are much younger than me & might get a chance
to fool yourself a while longer ... I did ...
... then again you MAY NOT BE ALCOHOLIC, or become alcoholic,
in which case enjoy your life.
I wanted to be NON - ALCOHOLIC so bad that I was ...
WILLING TO GO TO ANY LENGTH TO PROVE I WASN'T
AN ALCOHOLIC ...
I had been unable to quit drinking for any period of time but ...
always assured friends, family, and myself I could quit when -
ever I wanted ... I just didn't want to.
I finally declared I'd quit, & did quit drinking any alcohol for a full
365 days ... I was miserable & tortured ... I marked the days
off on a calender ... like I was in jail or something ...
... on day 365 as the SECOND HAND announced the top of
the hour ... I WAS ECSTATIC ! ... I HAD DONE IT ! ...
I ran out to my car & grabbed the 1.75 liter of Smirnoff Vodka I
had place there for this joyful occasion ... as I ran inside to
call my friends I chugged about 4 ounces from the bottle ...
... all was well in the world ...
... I started calling my friends ...
I'M NOT AN ALCOHOLIC ...
I DON"T NEED ANYTHING THOSE AA 's HAVE ... I told them all ...
as I continued to call friends & family they said ...
great, we are really happy for you ...
as I continued to call & drink ... the comments changed a little ...
that's great, we are really happy for you ... BUT ...
you sound different ... YOUR NOT DRINKING NOW ARE YOU ? ...
...
that turned out to be one of the worse drunks ever ...
I had tried so hard to prove something, & thought I had done just
that ... turns out I was MUCH SICKER THAN I THOUGHT.
From the high of having proved my point ... to the low of having
to FACE REALITY ... I finished the 1.75 in 1.5 days.
... after mourning my condition for a few days ...
... tail between my legs ...
... I headed back to get some help ...
I got the help I needed, and things get better most everyday.
G'Day everyone, thanks for letting me share,
