Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Today is Day 16 of being AF. Yesterday was by far, the HARDEST day. I very nearly caved and had a drink. We had my husband's sister and her husband over and they were all drinking. I felt a lot of pressure from my sister-n-law to drink and even when I said I was trying to "cut back", she wouldn't let it go.
However, I made it though and didn't drink, but I was near tears at time, it was very, very hard.
It's funny because I know all the reasons that the last 16 days have been good. I am sleeping better, I'm being a better Mom, I'm learning that I don't have to hide behind a mask of alcohol to have fun at parties and I honestly really don't need "liquid strength" during certain situations. Everything is better, really. But, given all that, it's still incredibly hard.
One of the reasons I wanted to stop / cut back (still unsure) was that I was tired of the emotional roller coaster and tired of spending so much of my time thinking about alcohol, worrying about it, etc, etc. Yet - here I am thinking about it and struggling more than ever now that I've stopped for two weeks.
I'm hoping that will at least lessen.
Anyway - Day 16 - here I come!!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Stick with sobriety and it will happen to you!
God bless!
Suggest you raise that bottom and either resolve not to drink --- or determine you arent in fact alcoholic. There is no safe moderate drinking for an alcoholic, ever.
And start saying sober rather than AF.
And I will promise you that "Misery enjoys Company" so when ever someone pushes me to drink and won't quit is about the only time I will say I'm an alchiholic. That makes them shut up real fast. Lol

Zachary 18 - my husband is supportive, but has a problem himself. I'm focusing on getting myself through day to day and hoping that he will see the changes and follow. It's tough.
Stickywick - Thanks for the thoughts / advice. I'm taking this one day at a time and not worrying about labeling myself or my goal yet. Stupid of me? Maybe, but I'm doing this by baby steps for sure. You know?
1is2many - thanks! Any reason why sober vs AF?
Personally I don't make any distinction between being AF and sober.
Further the definition of sobriety is: Moderation in or abstinence from consumption of alcoholic liquor or use of drugs.
However, for myself the moderation thing proved to be unworkable. In your opening post you said that you were unsure about wanting to stop completely or moderate. Both are good goals and moderation at least will minimize the harm alcohol will do if it becomes apparent that total abstinence from alcohol is the best most healthy approach for you.
So yes baby steps are fine, and I do not think you are stupid for going in the direction of trying to eliminate a problem in your life by whatever method you find that works...
