Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Make sure (BECAUSE you are a therapist and are used to focusing on others...lol) that you take time out to validate your own feelings. There is nothing wrong with taking 5 to have a bit of a pity party for yourself. Your feelings are just as valid as anyone else's and you need self-care as much as anyone else needs attention from you.
HUGS and may your weekend be full of strength, support, and love.

Sorry you're mom is getting worse :-(
I know you've got a busy weekend, but I hope you find some time to relax and take care of yourself, too.
I cant tell you how impressed I am that you found the strength to walk out of that store. THAT is a real accomplishment and please dont underestimate the strength that you have to have done that!
I understand that as a therapist, (I am a former nurse and am used to being a caretaker too), that you balance the time between helping others and taking some stock in what you are feeling. As the other two posters said, this is important too. But only when you are ready.
You are in crisis right now, and you need to do what works to keep you sober. In both our cases, this seems to be distraction, and for me it is a real winner when I am at risk. The more I focus on others, and the better I am able to stay out of my own head during such times, and the better I am able to get through to a period when I finally can do a little self-analysis. But until that time....stay busy my friend!!
Our heads can be a dangerous place since we can be our own worst enemies at times. And since this disease is so insidious, I pray that you are able to continue through this high-risk event in your life doing whatever you need to do NOT to drink!
And yes...that wonderful pink cloud. It is a wonderful part of early sobriety, but the trick is what do we do when its gone and we are again faced with life and all its difficulties. This is when things get tough.
Just do whatever works to stay sober. AA, meds, therapy for yourself, distraction, whatever it takes...just do it! Sobriety is so worth it and as you gain more and more time under your belt, you will get stronger and more happy again.
Hang in there!!
Hugsss
