Cruising through Day 10

Just wanted to update...I'm still here, still haven't drank and am feeling great despite breaking my foot last night playing kickball with a bunch of kids...if I was drinking I wouldn't have broken it because I'd be sitting on my ass to stupid to enjoy life. So I will gladly take the broken foot.

At this point I feel completely normal. Totally dried out...no headaches, shakes, sweats, anxiety, or anything. Yes there are times I want to hit the bottle but at this point I've got way too much invested to turn back/fall back into all that crap.

Life is good, I'm more productive on a daily basis than I've been in years.

I just wish I'd get some sort of support or at least a " good job so far" from my wife but that doesn't happen. It sucks but that's her, not me. I tell myself what a good job I'm doing all the time.

Way to go Pierce! Keep up the good work. It feels great to get out and live doesn't it? I still get such joy out of just the little things I would never would or could have done before I quit.

Well done Pierce!

My husband was pretty angry when I sobered up. I put him through a lot when I was drinking. Has she ever heard of Al-Anon? I'm in AA. It saved our marriage.

Anyway, YOU can slap your own back! And add one from me!

I too wanted some accolades or praise but then I realized that I wanted to be praised for being normal. I thrived on attention.

I used to be really reliant upon praise. I would actually wait for my wife to drive up until I took the trash cans to the road. Now in sobriety I am just doing what I'm supposed to and proud of myself

The whole motivation for me has changed. I used to be selfish and greedy. Now I'm trying to be a better person

Right now all of that doesn't matter. The point is...you've made it this far! Sorry to hear about the broken foot, but at least you were out having fun with kids and not sitting around drunk.

I broke my toe once but I was drinking when it happened. I stumbled and rammed my foot into once of those old wooden crates full of vinyl LPs. OUCH!!!

Keep it up. I also broke my foot last week...playing volleyball. Not fun, but isn't it great that we feel like getting out there and participating in life now that we are sober? Best wishes to you!

Congratulations, you are doing awesome. Nice that you look at the broken foot as a fair trade :) This post came at a good time for me, so thank you- It's frustrating at times to feel that spouses or others close to us are not appreciating our journey or are even hindering it.

And you are doing a great job -- it is a huge accomplishment. Don't ever forget it, even if your wife doesn't realize what a big deal it is.

Funny I broke my foot in early sobriety, and as much as it hurt, I believe it allowed me to have a distraction from booze. It actually helped me get thru the tough time

That's like me last year. What finally helped me to quit was that I had a severely arthritic left hip and got to the point where it was just too much effort and pain to go out to buy booze. I was too embarrassed to ask anybody else go get it for me, so it happened. I also knew that I was facing eventual hip replacement surgery and I would be a poor candidate if I continued on the path I was on.
