Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far. Today is Day 6 for me and it's going fairly well. Planning on going to my first AA meeting this Thursday with a wonderful group I use to attend during my previous 10 months of sobriety. Looking forward to reconnecting with people there. The cool thing is that I will have one week behind me to celebrate as well.
I could use your opinion on something I have coming up. I have a good friend who is introducing the release of his new album this weekend at a night club. He will be performing live tracks from the new album, but there will also be a lot of celebrating and drinking. I personally feel this it's too early for me to be in that kind of environment. Right now I'm trying my best to avoid any social situation that would expose me to temptation, but this is a very good friend that I'd like to support. I even did some of the photography that's featured on the album cover. It's not an easy situation, but perhaps someone in our group has some thoughts. Greatly appreciated!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Shortly after I stopped drinking, I had an invitation to one of those ‘must attend’ family gatherings. Two uncles who are twins were celebrating a big birthday and nothing short of dying would be a good enough excuse for missing the bash. Although most of the people there would be moderate drinkers, I knew that there would be an endless supply of the best of liquor.
My dilemma was that I was not long sober and the temptation to drink would be great. I hate parties at the best of times so going to one at that time would have been a double torture. At the same time, I did not want to offend my uncles or their families.
I shared about the conundrum at an AA meeting and got a suitable answer. No advice, no lecture and no judgement – the guy just said:
“If it was me, I wouldn’t go”.
I passed by the party venue on my way to another AA meeting just as people were gathering in. I know that one uncle and perhaps both was not pleased that I was not there but he soon got over it and we are on good terms today.
Therefore, the question that you may want to ask yourself is: “Which is more important – pleasing your friend or guarding your treasured sobriety”?
Good luck in making the right decision!
God Bless
