Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Good morning fellow members!
In the past all of my choices were not the best. I have found that when I do not ask for help, I get in trouble. Within the past 6 years of sobriety, I have decided to finally start communicating my real emotions and feelings. I have found that this group is another way to make good choices, by asking for suggestions and opinions. This is something I have fought tooth and nail. Why? Since I have learned and still learning to lean on other people, my choices become less stressful. I am choosing to share. I work at a place that is a gateway with small pay. My bosses and the clients are helped as I transistion to become someone new. This is my last year for my Bachelor degree, and I have field coming up for summer and fall. The job gives me the space I need to finish a major goal without stress. Do I find another job or do I go through and be content until I graduate?

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Don't be afraid to communicate your feelings, no matter what you are going through because chances are, pretty good that some of us have had the same experience and can relate. I have found that keeping my feelings inside is what triggered my addictions to begin with. Ptsd, and depression that I kept hidden, for years, wanted me to say hello to them instead of denying their existence and when I wouldn't give them the time of day, they made life a living hell for me.
So now I am a much more open person and not as afraid as I use to be and fear is something I work on overcoming, on a daily basis!
God Bless
From early childhood, we are conditioned by those around us in respect of negative and positive thoughts. And it is our own thoughts whether positive or negative that determine how we cope with life stresses - for us this ultimately ends with us reaching for the bottle!!!
Do you remember when you were a kid and you fell off your bike and scraped your knee and it bled. You go running home crying but instead of giving you a cuddle and saying something nice, your parent says grow up and don't be soft? That taught us not to show our emotions and it taught us not to ask for help - it taught us negative thoughts which led to us making logicial errors.
We begin to over generalise and we start to attribute those negative feelings to ourselves. Example - the boss comes in looking cross. What do we think? We automatically think they are cross with us........... We become to possess a set of beliefs that are essentially negative and pessimistic and these are usually acquired in childhood due to some of horrible event.
By reframing the way we think and how we view things, we retrain our brain to alleviate bad feelings and symptoms - that is huge and that is what you have achieved. Well done you - that is a massive accomplishment.
Be proud of yourself and do what your heart tells you,. Take a moment and google the cognitive triad - you may find some really useful tips.
Good luck
Bobinmaine, I will follow my heart. Yes, I have also figured out that keeping my feelings inside is led me down the wrong path, and I am teaching that to others.
Fauxartist, old school is okay, but there is some light that has shined on me through classes at school, and that has given me therapy on a lot. Working in behavioral hospital is helping me to realize more about also.
Jeffneedshelp, transformation because of A.A. is taking me down a great path with education, and experience.
Judgefitness, that conditioning from childhood has left some scars, and today I am realizing what to do with them. Thank you fro the positive statement of me needing to see how I have helped make all these great changes.
