Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

One value I saw as valuable, which I see now as not, was lying. I wasn't harsh enough on myself for using lying as a tool to gain both income and social status.
Lying might get you to the next day, or get you past the person you need to get by, but it won't get us to the life we never could have imagined or happiness that we've always desired.
One way to curb this temptation to look at lying as "not that big of a deal" is to commit to not doing business with or taking advice from others who find lying valuable. Anyone with some power in their spirit knows both the tones of liars and the damage even white lies do to everyone in general. Lying destroys trust, cannot help cement necessary bonds or valuable bridges to get to places we need to go to be of maximum service in the future, and we lie to ourselves if we believe a higher power, isn't aware of our thinking that we are getting away with something by lying to our fellows.
The predatory means it requires to lie to the unsuspecting or good natured is an evil that eventually will turn on the predator, like a boomerang, he or she will be eaten up by their own desire to manipulate, control, and gain whatever they are seeking with their self-interest and selfish ambitions.
I like how Jesus Christ says "let your yes be yes and your no be no", that right there is as simple as it gets, and if you do have some kind of agenda where your yes won't allow it to be a yes, and your no will not get you what you want, you're agenda is a lie to God and anyone who knows.
What are my values? How can I root any powerful values within an agenda or plan that accepts lying as due course? The American legal system is too lax on it's contributors lying, as a matter of fact, the better you lie, the more important to that system you become. How reliable a servant of justice has that system become? Not very reliable, in fact the only thing that can be relied on in the justice system and the courts of America are that it is going to drain the person financially, regardless rich or poor, and it is going to bow to the biggest liar or the person omitting the most truth. All while hiding like a little bitch behind the words "truth, justice, and honor." The justice system using that as a symbol of what it represents is the greatest lie of all. Everyone knows the justice system in America isn't dependable when seeking justice. They should rename it "I am not capable of providing justice for my people" system. They should also rename it "I am a waste of time" system.
Do I become a waste of time if I lie like that system in recovery? I do, in my personal experience, people tend to abandon me, make a mockery of my authority, and in a retalitory sense lie back to me usually in the boldest approach possible, with little to no consequences. If my self thinks lying is a means to an end, or acceptable protocol, I am wasting my life, and wasting away my gift of recovering.
In what areas do I lie? I do not know completely, but I am capable of lying, and usually lie out of fear, fear I am not going to get something I have built a future dependent on, or that I am going to get something I don't want. This whole God is running the show thing is very foreign to alcoholics who have fundamentally changed their will to be the only will there ever will be. It is very hard to de-commit from that and without any evidence inside or ability to see that God's will will be a more profitable experience. No prophet ever lied, and in fact prophets were so good at no lying, men hated it so much they lied and said prophets must be liars! Nobody remembers men, but everyone remembers prophets. Nobody cares about and history is never kind to men, who lie, because they can't handle the truth of a prophet, but God is no lie, and prophet's speak God, so men can go to hell if they continue to teach commoners to lie. Men will go to hell if they teach others to lie.
Lying must not be a value to build on if you want to maintain sanity, serenity, and sobriety.

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

It goes without saying that lying is going to lead to trouble for any type of person and for the alcoholic, to drinking and possible ruin. It is therefore important that we try to live as honestly as possible, but with a couple of caveats. We should avoid falling into the trap of morbid reflection, putting ourselves down for past deeds and thinking that we must be saints in future. In other words, it is important to retain a good balance in all things.
Another thing to bear in mind is that we are not the judges of other people’s lying, only our own. Therefore, people in the legal system, the political system etc. can be completely corrupt but that is not really my business. My responsibility is to live by the principle of Caveat emptor - buyer beware.
God Bless
I found a lot of truth in your post and commend you on your own recognition lying in any form plays in someone's life. I also enjoyed your reference to Jesus and his quote. That gave me great inspiration that I want to apply to my own life.
Best of luck on your journey
