booze good / girlfriend bad !

My parents were drunks, AND crazy----with the downright creepy, though never stated outright idea, that it was ok for me to get drunk, but no girlfriend!

My parents were drunks, and probably ashamed of themselves, and the decrepit house we lived in----so that can be a good excuse..of any girlfriend I would have would see just how drunk, crazy, stupid, and weird my parents really were.

And then there's the clich of my evil mom sleeping on the sofa, with my idiot dad sleeping in bed by himself. So, maybe they were just jealous that I would have a happy life with somebody.

And now, I'm on disability, with an elderly cat as my only friend and family, and he might be "gone" by the end of the month----a good reason to finally reveal the truth about my parents.

an hour ago, I finally thought how I'm still letting my parents ruin my life, so time to forget this stuff....but I thought of posting this prior to that.

That is crazy and I have come from a f-up childhood as well. For myself I have to stop living in the past. I have a lot of anger towards my mother for the stuff she did and let happen to me. Im letting go of that and I do feel better. I talk about it, that's what works for me is talking and talking about it with people that our like me and know that your not alone. Not sure how old you are now Im 36 and im just letting go of this now, wish I would of done it years ago, then my drinking would not be so bad. Im in AA right now and things look good for me. I hope you find peace with yourself.

Yes!! I too began to understand when I really saw it living with past planted firmly in the present was as Bob E said "I think I'll write a book about my life and the people that lived it" I hear You...I also found a wonderful book by John Lee "I don't wanna be alone" helpful ...It was like a trap door for me and almost took my breath away but Oh well Who ever said life was fair:)

When my father passed away, I had a few memories that made me feel sad he was gone. But, he was an alcoholic and even though he was sober 23 years, the alcoholic personality would shine through each day!!

I celebrate being on my own. When I start to lose myself to old rules, I stop and regroup! I want my sons and grandchildren to have great lives. Our parents tried, and thank Heaven we have the freedom and intelligence to go forward to enjoy the rest of our lives. I dearly hope your cat doesn't leave. We adopted a 2 yr old Maine Coon cat - friends have one of the brothers! They are so entertaining and devoted to their family. Hope you will think about another pet so you won't be alone too long.
