Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I'm sure this is not a new topic to most of you, but today is the first I have heard of her. I went online and read the Dateline interview with her. Oddly, I couldn't find the date on that, but it was after her release from prison. What a sobering (pun) story! It really humbled me. I have driven in blackouts. I still shudder to think of it.
How quickly our lives - or someone else's - can be ruined. Hope this keeps me sober today.

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

And she's STILL not willing to admit that she's a total fraud??? But her book is still on the internet and I bet she makes money from it.
There's a certain word that starts with "C" that comes to mind...
"According to the NIAAA and many other independent researchers, there are four times as many problem drinkers as alcoholics in this country. Yet there are very few programs that specifically address the needs of beginning stage problem drinkers, while there are literally thousands of programs for the smaller population who are seriously alcohol dependent.
By the time people reach serious stages of alcohol dependency, changing drinking becomes more difficult, and treatment is usually costly. MM believes that this situation needs to be remedied in the interest of public health and human kindness with early intervention and harm reduction programs."
Not surprisingly, approximately 30% of MM members go on to abstinence-based programs."
MM is not in competition with AA or advocating that those who have adopted a very necessary abstinence based recovery resume drinking. MM is trying to reach problem drinkers earlier and change their damaging drinking behavior.
The book Alcoholics Anonymous (the big book) identifies them starting at the bottom of p 20: "Then we have a certain type of hard drinker. He may have the habit badly enough to gradually impair him physically and mentally. It may cause him to die a years before his time [like a heavy smoker]. If a sufficiently strong reason - ill health, falling in love, change of environment, or the warning of a doctor - becomes operative, this man can also stop or moderate, although he may find it difficult and troublesome and may even need medical attention." This is the niche MM seeks to fill by helping with support, information, and techniques to help them with this sometimes "difficult and troublesome" transition...
