Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I hope you manage to get free of that beast, well done on nearly 100 days and I hope you manage to enjoy your Thanksgiving celebrations. It's good you have a plan to avoid hanging out with the heavy drinkers!

I found in the first couple of years situations where others were drinking were easier if I did some visualization exercises first. I would imagine myself at the event, like Thanksgiving, smiling, happy and sipping on a glass of sparkling water. Made it much easier to enjoy myself at the event and not think about drinking.
Plus I agree with impermance --- the food is so much better (and you can eat more) if you aren't drinking. So is hanging out with the kids.
Enjoy! and great job in advance on 100 days!
The mental obsession did leave me, and thank GOD early on. But the first 3-4 months were up and down. And all new as I'd always been drunk for all occasions that were even remotely social, and many that werent.
Anyway, my first sober thanksgiving I invited a woman from the program (AA) to join my family with her daughter. It was great for her as her family is out of town and wonderful for me as it ensured I'd have a sober wing man so to speak. I loved it.
I had a sober friend at a halloween party last year and she was there again this year. I didnt 'need' her persay but what a blessing.
Find sober friends. They've made a HUGE difference in my life and sobriety.
stick with the non drinkers! if you really think you are going to blow it, make up an excuse and don't go!
