Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Well after 6 glorious months....it happened. I drank on Saturday, a lot. I have know idea why. It wasn't as if I was craving beer. It just happened and the next thing I know I'm drunk and right back to where I was 6 months ago. A crying pregnant wife who's been so supportive and happy in my sobriety. A guilty and depressed mind that had all but disappeared in my sobriety. The shame is even worse than before. It simply didn't need to effiing happen. If there is one thing I learned it's that the old saying is true...the one thing that changed is that I stopped going to meetings. I'm back to AA. This thing is even more baffling than I knew. I mean, I understand the reason for drinking when you are craving and in the middle of it, but I never expected a slip up when everything was fine and I hadn't even thought of drinking. From now on, always vigilant. Always.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Baffling..I wanted to drink..pressures in life..and I thought I could do it one day.
Nope...Keep going to AA...Your strong for seeing your mistake and doing something about it.
Your story is not a unique one and indeed I know someone who recently had an almost identical experience after being several years sober. A common theme seems to be I dont know why and it is by coming to understand the why that you will be likely to find a solution that works.
What I was told at an early stage is that while going to meetings is helpful and to be recommended, meetings alone are not always enough. It was suggested to me that I would need to do something that would change my way of thinking if my goal was long term sobriety. Eventually I buried my pride, accepted that I needed help and asked a man if he would become my sponsor and show me what had worked for him. I then learned a little about the why and how of alcoholism and a way of staying sober.
Being forever vigilant is good but it can be hard work. Changing your way of thinking or removing that obsession for alcohol makes life a lot easier and more enjoyable that has been my experience at least.
I would suggest you find someone who has been through the Steps with a sponsor and ask them to guide you through one to one. The expected result is a spiritual awakening which, among other things, will remove the urge to drink. The result can be permanent if you continue use the tools the programme has given you as a start on a new path.
The drinking is a symptom only. The key is to address the underlying causes so that you no longer are prey to the mental twist that compels you to drink.
The best I did on meetings was about a year, after going through the programme I am nearly eight years because I was shown the best approach to stay well, physically, spiritually and mentally. I have to keep growing because the alcoholism is progressive but that is nothing like the fight I had directly with alcohol. This can be possible for you too!
