Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I've been having the same type of problem. Unexplained headaches, that are particularly painful if I bend my head down. I tried Allegra and it didn't help, so I tried some ibuprofen. Helped a little bit. I don't have any other symptoms for it to be sinus-related.
As mine seem to come on late in the day, I think it's either stress (going through some issues with the parental family) or eyestrain from looking at a computer all day.
It seems like that with a month in of not drinking, any major withdrawal symptoms for you would have passed by now. Maybe not.
Are you under any extra stress or tension? Any drastic changes in the weather (barometric?)
I hope you find out what's going on and feel better. I also hope that you're able to pick right back up where you left off with not drinking.
(((HUGS!)))
My symptoms were headache and sinus pressure, my ears feeling "stuffed", light headedness sometimes if I moved to quickly. I also felt like my heart was racing but that may have been from the allergy meds.
The strange thing is normally when I have allergies my nose runs like crazy and I'm blowing it all of the time but these last few days there was very little of that.
My symptoms are different too. Less sneezing and nasal congestion, but more like a chronic ear infection, ya know that water in the ear feeling, swollen glands, and more frequent headaches. I attribute it to the intensity of the pollen this year and my immune system kicking into a higher gear producing a somewhat different symptoms.
Yes, drinking can mask the allergy problem, but allergies are a small price to pay in comparison to the havoc in my life drinking created.
I hope you get back on your sober winning streak. God knows the Mets need another one...
If it were May 12th...I think you have all 3....allergies, withdrawal and anxiety.
If it was April 12th...I think allergies and anxiety.
Looking back at last night I realize there were a few triggers that added up to my drinking.. first was the allergies and having felt like crap since Sunday and so I had not been sleeping well either. I also drank some mango lemonade that was very good but reminded me some of a margarita and so it brought out a craving. I started with the intention of just having one but that turned into three.. I also have the anxiety about the pending drive as well as a potential change in my work situation - which is still up in the air - and so all of those "challenges" added up to an "f it" moment (plus my wife was out at the time I made the first drink)
Anyway, today is back to day 1. I know that drinking makes me feel more anxious the next day and so I have the extra motivation of the pending drive and not wanting to feel anxious to help support me in my goal of not drinking so even though I had that set back I still feel good.
I also look back and remember that I went 11 days before drinking on April 12, then went 30 days before yesterday and so having stayed sober for 41 of 43 days reminds me that I can do it!
Rich
I relapsed after 3.5 yrs sober, but not because I felt like shit from allergies. I am 9 days sober today and feel like hell, queezy, sinuses locked up and sneezing. But for the life of me I can't imagine drinking as an alternative. My guess is that you were just jonesing for a drink and you justified allergies as being an excuse to drink.
I think that when you really want to stop drinking and have had enough of this fun, you will recognize the rationale that you come up with for drinking like we have all gone through.
Today I could come up with numerous reasons to drink, but I am not going to.
I drink to cope
I had to learn how to cope without relying on alcohol.
