Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Mum had periods of difficulty and even attended an AA meeting, but she has settled down and knows how to put the cap back on a bottle.
I believe today it's a family illness...alcohol isn't necessarily always involved but -ism breeds -ism :)

When they divorced and I decided to live with my mom at 16, she bought me my own bottle of rum every week. Because it was "healthier than gin or vodka". And on weekends I'd visit my dad, and we'd go out bowling with grandpa and drink Stingers, whiskey sours, beer, beer, beer...
No way would they have called themselves alcoholics. I was well dressed, well fed, well taken care of. And raised to be a drinker. Only in writing this now do I see how freakin' crazy this upbringing was!

My dad was a rage-aholic....and probably still is. I stay away from him.
Anyway, I'm so grateful to be sober. I have three children and I don't think they have any memories of me drunk.....
This might sound stage, but one of the reasons I quit was because I sensed my dad was going to live that much longer. I could not stand the thought that "from the other side" he would would see his baby girl killing herself with alcohol.

Confusing sometimes when the needs of a parent outweigh the needs of a child...with or without alcohol...and the adult child can sometimes find it difficult to identify with that reality. Paging Dr Billy, paging Dr Billy :)
Of course, I'm not suggesting that is true for everyone here, but some may identify...at a gut level.

You sound like a strong person and I think it's great that your children are your motivation to not drink again. The good thing about memories is you can always create them. Plan some special activities with your children like a picnic or a surprise birthday party. I bet the good memories will outweigh the bad.

Find out your truth for yourself don't rely on any one else s recovery ( healing) process as a yard stick!! Like was said in in the Field of dreams movie :) "Go the Distant" or many others than just your self may pay a Heavy price!!
Oh my family has been riddled as many are of scattering of Alcoholic family members and those that are unhealthy enough to support their behavior and create a agenda of their own in the process ((
That is all,:))
