Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I had a roommate once who was having trouble with his hands and holding a gallon of milk was really hard...he got the MS diagnosis...that is a lot more serious I think...
me my knowledge of neuopathy is that it is related to diabetes more than drinking...I dunnu much about it being caused by alcoholism...
Only thing that will keep it at bay is to NOT DRINK! It's that simple.
Thanks for sharing -- good to get some validation. I'm glad that I'm not the only one.
Peace!
Your Doctor

that would be from a Doctor too
I would first suggest if you are not happy with what the doctor diagnosed then get another opinion from another doctor. I am not a doctor but i know a deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1 12) can cause similar symptoms. And i am wondering if your doctor suggested you take vitamin B alcohol consumption decreases the amount of Vitamin B1 absorbed by the body.
I don't recall experiencing the numbness/weakness in my fingers in recovery but that doesn't mean i haven't it was suggested i take vitamin B right from the start. i have met a few people in recovery who suffer from peripheral neuritis and relate it directly to there alcoholism.
I hope you find your answers .
God Bless...

I have severe neuropathy now and am often still in a great deal of pain despite a lot of medication to try to reduce it.
That said, I had a similar experience years ago...(numbness in pinkie spreading to the middle) Dr ordered a nerve conduction test to check for damage to the nerve - showed none. My rx was to try not bend my arm at the elbow when possible - including during sleep... it never fully went away, but that did help some.
