"Drink responsibly" is such an oxymoron to me now. Might as well say, "Poison yourself responsibly." MMMMMMMkay. The alcohol world is one of total insanity.

Ugh. The first time I drank hard liquor I was probably 16 or 17 and was at a party. My first drink was a tequila sunrise, then a rum and coke and then something else. Boy, did I ever get drunk and SICK!

To this day, I can't stand the taste of tequila!

I always chuckle at the alcohol commercials showing these actors and actresses having "fun" because of the alcohol they are consuming. Guess they would not be selling much liquor or beer if they showed the other side of it. And yes...even in my past drinking days I could not stand tequila!

For myself drinking responsibly entails not drinking at all.

The hands-down most annoying ad running right now is where the guy is singing "Carry On My Wayward Son" karaoke. Ugh.

I hate that one so much that I didn't even know what was being advertised. I think it's for Bud Light???

Starting late next month, we'll be bombarded by alcohol ads when NFL season gears up. Ugh... Commercial breaks are meant for pouring a fresh glass of ICE WATER!!

I was at the gym on the elliptical when I saw an ad on the TV for some "spritz" drink- totally marketed to females.

I'm glad that some of us can see through that feeble attempt! : )

Good point Deli. I think I may have even read that one of the mentalities to battle cravings is to look beyond the pretty bottle, or the ornate Martini glass. The same booze could be sitting in a puddle. Booze is booze. Booze is poison, no matter what pretty package, bottle, stem-glass, or garnish one uses to decorate it.

Rich talked about the fancy nightclubs and the romantic trips to the tropics in some of the autobiographical sections of the Twenty-Four Hour book, and took pains to make it clear that the reality was not so glamorous at all, if you looked at the whole picture (24H 2/62/7):

"A night club crowded with men and women all dressed up in evening clothes looks like a very gay place. But you should see the men's room of that night club the next morning. What a mess! People have been sick all over the place and does it smell! The glamour of the night before is all gone and only the stink of the morning is left."

I cannot stand the hypocrisy of the alcohol industry. They try to push their products on the public as something highly desirable and life-enhacning. Those of us who have bought in to their deception and have been through the wringer know the truth. The broken families, damaged bodies and ruined lives we all know about bear witness to that fact.
I remember being the designated driver for my wife and several of her friends years ago. we went to a locsl bar/night-club and another friend of hers not in her party approached to make small talk. The alcohol reeked from her pores as she had been drinking heavily and I, being 3 days sober could hardly stomach it. I had to excuse myself from her otherwise I wouldw have threw up all over the place. The stench was that bad.
I am not judging that person and she was a truly beautiful and attracttive woman. however, that smell made her repulsive and that stench is what I should and need to equate
the alcohol industry with. Something that just poisons you with their products and leaves you sick to your stomach. Nuff said.
