People who don't understand struggles with alcohol have trouble identifying. During early sobriety you're allowed to be self-focused. There really isn't a choice.

I don't know about your long-term plans for sobriety (after Lent) but as a general rule, you cannot be there for your family in the future if you don't figure out sobriety for yourself in the present. Stay the course!

Jimmy, I have a question, after lent is over what's the plan? Are you going to stay stopped or... Not try to be rude just curious.

Nobody can make you drink - unless they overpower you and pour it down your throat.
All you've done is say to her " I'll fix you for making me angry - I'll drink at you". When she probably doesn't even know anything about it.
Sounds like me a few years back.
If you're going to stop - do it for yourself. God will take care of the rest...

Hey Jimmy, your wife can't make you drink mate. I used to think I was blameless and that others would drive me to drink. Hell, I'd use any excuse. No-one understood how innocent I was and I believed the world was against me. Just another part of my self-destruction. The only one against me though was 'big I' and 'poor little me'.

No, families don't always understand. Change isn't always easy for not just the alcoholic, but those surrounding them. My family had to carry the load when I was drinking, and now I was sober, they were wary of what was going on and worried that I'd screw up again. It took time for us all to adapt. But they couldn't make me drink. I was responsible. I am responsible.

Jimmy- just a clarification: Did you drink, or are you just tempted? I'm hoping you were able to withstand the temptation- sometimes it's good to come to a place like DS and post BEFORE your get too far into the negative thought patterns that lead to drink.

Whether you drank or not, don't be afraid to come here - we all know what it's like to struggle.

I didn't have to go outside the home to look for someone to abuse. When I was drinking, I used to tell my husband that I wouldn't have to drink if I wasn't married to him. What a crock!

When I was newly sober, I still used him as a whipping post. He became my problem just like he was when I was drinking. If I felt uncomfortable, it must be his fault. Again, what a crock.

I had the nerve to be surprised when he left me in the first year. Jimmy, if it comes down to your sobriety or the alcohol, I hope you pick your sobriety. You might see things in a whole different light if you continue on your quest for permanent sobriety!
