Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. He also suggested that I might try occasionally to act as if I believed. Somewhere I had heard that it is easier to act yourself into a new way of thinking than to think yourself into a new way of acting, and this made sense in the context of 'acting as if.'"

I posted this for the new people to sobriety that are struggling & have many questions.

'Acting as if' was something I never really got to grips with.
The one thing I was glad to get early on though was 'honest, open and willing' and I still grateful to have that today.
But to put aside long held beliefs that I was the only thing that could affect my fate was an important thing for me. I'm still an Atheist/Agnostic 11 years later, although I had a long interlude of spiritual belief. But I do try to tap into the Spiritt of the Universe and I do the Third Step all the time to Nothing, or a Power I don't Understand. Sounds strange, but it does help.
And I see the Group as a Power Greater than myself because with all the accumulated years and wisdom, there is more power there than I have alone. Seems to work although I definitely would love to regain a strong spirituality - it DID help me, I see it work in others. But I can't maufacture it, although I keep the door open.
