Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Politely suggest that's a better place for these discussions :)

These posts are confusing, preachy and tiresome and many of us have dropped hints that you either explain why you are posting them or cease doing so.
If you are trying to be an ambassador for AA, there might be more useful, clear and positive ways to achieve that.
Although I am an out and out AA person and I think that your posts are sincere and helpful, I do feel a little bit uncomfortable with too many Big Book quotes on a forum that is open to people of all opinions. However, I would strongly defend your right to post such material. You are not breaking any DS rule that I am aware of and I am also unaware of the existence of any Post Vigilantes, official or unofficial.
It would be dangerous for one or even for a group of people on a forum to decide that people who do not fit in with their own views should be banned from posting or be attacked for holding different viewpoints. There is an Ignore button below each persons avatar and it is open to anyone to put those who raise their blood pressure on the ignore list.
Therefore, Squid my friend, I hope that you stick around and keep posting.
What a relief for me that I got sober without out it.
One interesting thing I have found out about myself I am not defective.
I find it so ironic that ppl here are still belligerent and ready to tell someone else they are not welcome to their own opinion, simply AA has given me tolerance and I am so less apt to pee in someone else's Cheerios.
Preach on squid!

You deserve a say on what you wish , and I would think that if a reply is in a negative tone then they are uncomfortable and probably resent some thing or someone associated with aa. And usually some issues are present with their past with their mother.
I don't think you should quit but sometimes a simple how it worked for me in you're words is a easier tread to join in on

There is plenty of room for disagreement and discussion on DS. Personally I think if we all thought the same thing, there wouldn't be much point to participating in a discussion board.
I don't think anyone has told you that you are unwelcome, but please let me know if you feel differently or report it using the abuse form. You have just been given suggestions that your quotes might not be having the affect that you would like. Many people find them off-putting or that they present AA in a way that may not be your intent.
Yes. This board is named Alcoholism. That doesn't mean there is a one-size fits all solution. What bugs me is that if anybody says anything remotely critical about AA, we get dressed down, or better yet, told that we're in "denial" or have some "issue with their mother." (BTW, that reference/ASS-umption really pissed me off!)
Yet, on the other hand, if somebody tries to discuss other methods of quitting or curtailing drinking, they get hounded so much that they eventually leave the board. A prime example is the guy who posted on here about the Sinclair Method and Moderation Management. He probably left in disgust over the hostile, unwelcoming manner in which he was treated.
Having some courtesy and respect for the readers (prior to posting) would go a long way in presenting/tolerating differing points of view and offering support.
I am not sure where you got the idea that there is any rule about mentioning AA or any other recovery method or that anyone is being censored for mentioning AA.
AA is by far the program most frequently discussed in this group.
Replies 1,3,5 are why I thought there might be rules about quoting AA or other sources.
But I found no rules, other than the standard promise to be nice.
No rules.
That would make this a-typical of any other recovery sight I have visited. Strong opinions, criticisms and suggestions, both pro and con are welcome I guess. Not my particular approach toward 'steering' a broken or suffering soul towards possible relief, but I also believe that we are all needed.
My own journey thus far has lead me to believe that conformity is a principle which allows a simpler path. I will use care in my posts/replies.
No rules, just a polite suggestion based on what seems to work and what seems to be of interest...and what seems to just stir the pot :)
Experience becomes our best teacher I think...sticking to the party line is a poor substitute :)
Have a great day all

Losing the need to feel right, or for another to be wrong is greatly beneficial. It quiets a need to stuff ego and allows personal growth to begin.
As a newbie to this group I have to say that I did read these Big Book posts out of curiosity. I have never read the book, and have no intention of joining AA, but I did not find these posts worthless. Any thoughts, words, actions that help illuminate - I'm all for it.
It helps the sick.
It helps ....it does..
If people don't like the topic,,,,why reply>?
