Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. As some of you know I have a very strong history of colon cancer in my family. My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer at 49 and died at 52. His sister was diagnosed in her mid-fifties (very early in the disease process) and died before the age of 60. I had a colonoscopy yesterday and had two growths (polyps) removed and sent for biopsy. My doctor told me I was lucky to have had the testing when I did. My routine testing was scheduled for three years ago. This was the point when my drinking was starting to get heavy and then spiraled to the point where I was. So I blew my routine testing off for three years! Alcohol is strongly linked to colon cancer!! If I was not convinced that I needed to maintain sobriety before, I can assure you, I am now.
Please, if you are over 50, or have a family history of colon cancer, schedule your colonoscopy TODAY!! And for anyone who is still questioning your desire to stop drinking, or make sobriety a lifetime goal, talk to someone who has colon cancer or has lost someone to colon cancer. It's not a pretty disease nor a pleasant way to die.
My wake up call for everyone of us. Please take care of your health now...we probably did more damage to our bodies than we realize, but we are at the place to do something about it now! And that's my rant for the day!

If anyone has been prescribed thiamine and strong compound vitamin B from their doctor it is more important to take them than might be apparent. The body destroys vitamin B and a lack of thiamine is linked to wet brain in alcoholism.
I meet fellow alcoholics who sometimes dismiss the importance of taking these vitamins, not realising the reason they are prescribed.
I had a colonoscopy done in my early forties. I had two small benign polyps. I was supposed to have the procedure every three years. I don't have insurance or the money right now to have it done. But you are right. It needs to be done. The worst part for me was the prep. I actually was alittle awake during my procedure so I saw my colon on the screen. That was fascinating to me. I felt it when they clipped the polyps. My dad never ever drank but he did eat a lot of sugar.
Our health department has a colon cancer screening program for folks without insurance. It's a federal program so you might want to check with your local health department, they may be able to get you screened for free!
