On Pg. 9 of Bill's Story his friend comes over to his house, after Bill has lost all hope of every having a solution for his inability to not drink.  This concept of passing the information, often life saving information, along to the next person who is still under the grip of an inability to treat their alcoholism, is huge.  I see the most successful people in AA or in life for that matter, always willing to help others know, solutions.  

The fact, that when Bill's friend talked to him (sober), Bill (drunk) got confidence that there was hope, is huge too.  The reality that Bill's friend decided with his own power, through sobriety, that he wanted to pass along what he learned to Bill, when looked at honestly, was the difference between millions of people becoming ingrained in sobriety, and not.  Bill gets all the credit for AA, but Bill's friend really started it all in my opinion.  Bill's friend didn't have to pass it along, he could have done what many of us do today, and say to ourselves, "God will handle it, and I'll pray for that person I could just get off my ass and go help real quick", so I just think, Bill's friend is the most important person in AA.  The book doesn't even mention his name, and that is so fitting since it is called Alcoholics Anonymous!  I don't even care what the friends name was, even though AA historians love to tell everyone who he was, for me, the most important thing is he cared enough to help, and that is again, huge, when dying from alcoholism in a world that isn't sound enough to really get what the problem is (nor will they ever and that is ok, nobody and nothing is perfect).

Bill says he revisited his higher power as well when his friend was talking to him.  Bill states that his resentment of religion and own ignorance of if there really was a God or not, also presented itself to him when his friend was talking.  Bill's dialogue from pages 10 to the middle of 12 is very wholesome and honest, and I've known many alcoholics who that is where it started, all they had to do was have some help, and then being whole, honest, and humble immediately followed and they started being very interested in God.  A God that has no limitation that one can present to him or herself their own conception of, also, huge.  The willingness to believe in a God, that loves all of us, and wants to help, everyone, and particularly wants to help alcoholics manage their own lives and organize their own ways of going forward, free from the burden of compulsive drinking, is what it is all about. 

Pg's 14-16 are all about recovery, and the story is a great story.  What makes it so great is it is all true and to this day, still relevant and very powerful for those who believe.
