Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Hello friends -- I haven't been on here reading and sharing in about two weeks and my "addict mind" got the better of me 9 days ago. While I haven't touched a drink since Sept 29th and have been going to AA meetings every day, got a sponsor and was getting in touch with my higher power, I still had a relapse from staying sober on Saturday, Dec. 19th. I was getting ready to go to a small holiday party with my wife and for some reason only an addict can relate to, I decided to go into our kitchen cabinet, take out my daughter's prescription bottle of Focalin (a pill form of medication to treat her ADD) and not just take one orally, but crush one and snort it. It brought on a temporary "high" as it is a form of an amphetamine adn while that did feel good while it lasted, the coming down was anything but fun. My brain was shooting off in a million different directions at once, I felt zombie like and of course, terrible that I could do that. That didn't stop me however. I went on to do this for the next 4 days and each day I would crush a pill every few hours and snort it to where I was doing about 4-5 five mg pills per day this way. Finally, at about 4 PM on Christmas Eve and facing my first decision of that day to snort one or not to snort one, I asked for help from my higher power to please lift this insane desire that I have to "escape myself" The urge left me for a minute and I flushed the pills down the toilet. I still haven't drank since Sept 29th and should be enjoying 90 days sober TODAY, but instead , I started my count over on Christmas Eve. Now THAT will be an easy day to remember if I keep working on myself and really using all of my tools. The alcohol bone is connected to the drug bone no matter what kind of "drug" it is. I could a painful but useful "gift" of a reminder of that. I shared my story at the AA meetings I regulary attend as people had been excitedly looking forward to my 90 days with me. "Cuning baffling and powrful indeed..." We're all here together my friends. May 2016 bring you a truly sober and better year. Hugs, PG

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

I hope your daughter has the meds that she needs -- it can be difficult to refill an ADD prescription early.
Glad to hear you have been open about it with those who are helping you on the sober journey and very pleased to hear you got rid of those unnecessary meds. Onward and upward!
Thank you. Where I have no desire to go out, you've given me another valuable tool of how dangerous it can be breaking sobriety.
In sorry what has happened, but your ownership of it is commendable. I'm also glad you have a good support system. The count will be the count and you can look forward to 90 days in spring time.
Years from now those 80 days or so will be nothing compared to the learning experience you had. The disease is clearly progressive.
I haven't gone out so I don't know what it would be like but I also have an eating issue. I've gone on fasts for 10-20 days and as soon as I finished, I ate everything in site, only to be heavier and more unhealthy than before. I know I'd be worse with alcohol.
Glad to see that you've returned.

Good for you. Here's to another sober day.
