Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I'm on day 6 of..... something. Stopping all together? Limiting? I still don't know. At this point, I feel it's safer to NOT drink since I've tried 50,000 times to "slow down". Day 6 and I still feel ok with things. I've had a few moments of wanting to drink, but have reminded myself of all the many, many , many reasons not to. However, yesterday on the phone, my sister-in-law was talking about a gathering this coming weekend and said, we should have a few drinks of.... I hesitated and then said, yeah, maybe. I'm not ready to tell people of my choice - not sure why.
There is also a gathering on Saturday where I know people will be drinking. It won't be to access, given the party, but still..... people who know me will except me to have some drinks. Not that they would care if I don't, but it will seem strange to me.
I would LOVE to get through this weekend without drinking. I would love to say on Monday, that I'm on Day 10 of whatever this is. I'm feeling good right now that I can. It's just hard when it comes to social situations / family / gatherings.
Here's to strength and resolve and making the right decisions for me and for whatever this journey of mine is.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

It wasn't until I hit my low and was escorted to the hospital by a friendly cop that things began to change for me....
after detox and an iop, I had 3 months of relapse prevention group counseling and I remember doing some role playing where each of us were placed in situations like you mentioned and we all came up with techniques on how to deal with them. It was extremely beneficial to me and I use those tools I leaned still today.
That was 6 years ago. I attend occasional AA meetings and I have never been happier!
God Bless!

my favorite answer is I DONT DRINK NORMALLY
Its hard in early sobriety, but it becomes natural. We need to get used to being sober as we got used to drinking. Tell yourself no drinking today no mater what and that its NOT an option. Picture yourself finishing up that event sober and very happy.
remember a single drink is never an option and its not what we want as alcoholics anyway. We want 10...not one. And obviously that's a bad choice. So just drink something else and give yourself an out. If you need to leave....leave. Sobriety has to come first or everything else will wind up last......
