Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I'm glad you are here and sober today.
Do you have a plan? What will be different this time? the good news is you sound beaten down. I was for SURE. I was ready to be done for good. I was also prepared to do whatever I needed to do a day at a time to avoid that first drink. That's the one that does us in.
Welcome back. I am sure that you did not plan to take that first drink yesterday but yet you did it and there was a reason for that. Life can send plenty of shitty days your way and probably will again so how to you plan to deal with the next one?
The good news is that you are back and maybe it is time now to look at yesterdays experience and learn from it.
I hear a lot on here about the first drink but for me it was sometimes a done deal before that first drink was physically in front of me. It was to do with the way alcoholism affected my mind. At certain times I had no defense against the first drink which rendered my renewed resolve subject to failure at some point. In AA we call that situation a "mental blank spot."
Personally I needed a spiritual programme of recovery to stay sober long term. This may or may not be the case for you but I do wish you the best with whatever plan you now have to stay sober.
I haven't been on for a while so were both back. What I found out early in my sobriety is I have a progressive disease .It's also cunning ,baffling and powerful and even though I wasn't drinking my alcoholism was still progressing.
So on the other side of that so is my sobriety progressive so I need to do something about that daily over-wise my disease may takeover again and that first drink may come reality. And then it's back in the quicksand .
What helped me was rehab, going to AA meetings even when i didn't want to be there ,doing the suggested things getting a sponsor start looking at the 12 steps, finding a HP who to me became a Loving God who if you took 5 steps towards He would take 50 towards you.
So to end it because the mind can only take in as much as the backside can absorb. We are all only an arm lengths away from the next drink but what I have in between me and that next drink is those meetings ,12 steps, and a loving God .This is my experience.
If nothing changes nothing changes just a few ideas thanks for your post .
God Bless...
Lionel
