Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Love the picture -- that your dog?
I don't know if I have any good advice for you. My situation was a bit different. I quit once and have not had a drink since, so I am not sure what you are going through. How was life when you were sober? What made you decide to start drinking again?
I do know that for me, the biggest part of getting sober was about making the decision. Not kind of, sort of I really know I should stop, but making a personal commitment that I refuse to break. Jumping in the deep end.
You've spent the last five years off and on drinking. Sounds like you are ready to jump into sobriety again. You did it before, so you know you can do it again. Might as well start right now.
Glad you found us!
I got sober in AA - I could not have done it without meetings. AA is not for everyone but it can be exceedingly helpful.
Have you tried AA before?
My experience was the same as ExJerseyGirl. It was all about making the commitment to get sober.
I found my sobriety through AA too.
There are many years of experience here. I hope you find the support you need.
I quit drinking for 2 years at one time and then drank again. I was miserable when i was not drinking do I just drank. It progressed to drinking every day. then ALOT every day.
After a lot of pain and crap I finally decided to go to a place where other alcoholics talked things thru. I couldnt quit alone. That was over a year ago and I just got back from a mtg and I will probably go to bed sober . today. I will deal with tommorow when it gets here.
The thing that I found after the fog lifted is that alcohol was nothing more than a HUGE anchor holding me down.. You get to working on some things and eventually you realize that ... Hey i didnt really WANT a drink today. Then you get better and you realize that I DIDNT WANT A DRINK TODAY.@!!!!!!!!
The only thing that drinking would do is to kill me so I will pass thank you.
I hope you get the healing help that you desire. Just posting here is a great step. I found DS just before I found a room and it was all good
go , get well.

I needed a program. AA has changed my life and I'm so grateful.
Hugs,

The fact that you joined this group and introduced yourself indicates you are ready to take the plunge. The upside of having done this before is, even if it is rough at first, you already know it gets better. Since you already got lots of good big picture advice. I'll throw in some short term thoughts. As trivial as it sounds, those first days went a little smoother for me with several varieties of hot tea (relaxing beverage-centered ritual) and an enormous stack of library books.
Same situation here, although I have not made it for that long.
I am new to the group as well. I want to quit before getting sick for real, then it will be too late.
Seems that everything that I felt or experienced about my alcoholism has been already said here in DS by one or another member.
How about we both stop RIGHT NOW, and see how it goes.
Will come here every day to read, that seems to help by keeping me grounded.
Keep us posted.
God speed!
P.S. AA is not for me either.
I found the tools on their Website useful -- check them out.

Even more useful for me was Allen Carr's book "the Easy Way to Stop Drinking." Many reviews on Amazon that you might find interesting.
