Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I'm on day three as well!
I'll keep you in my T/P as well.

So . . . you say you are working on recognizing emotions that trigger drinking? What have you found so far, if you are willing to share.
Sounds like anxiety is one of them.
For me - it's usually guilt, or avoidance of pain. I want to numb and silence the inner critic. Funny, because it has the opposite effect - after I am sober again of course. The numb is always temporary.
Just an observation. Good luck to you on your path.

Perhaps googling "urge surfing" might help...
Had my first test last night. My daughter was at a friends house as they are on spring break and my wife (a teacher) was also away from home with some friends. It was 4:30 (beer :30). Normally this is one of my triggers to start drinking, tell myself I would only have a couple that would then turn into a six pack before they got home. I caught myself going to the mini fridge that has beer in it, stopped and turned away. Instead I went to the kitchen, fed the animals and went to Wal-Mart to get a different six pack, a sixer of white grape flavored water!
Trout, keep up the good work and vent here, well listen.
Stay strong.

Maybe this time you won't get anxious when you walk in to AA.
I feel the same way walking into any ROOM. I'm going to be going to an outpatient treatment program...and I'm anxious...but my life is worth it and I know once I get there....things calm down inside me.
Try it again.
Just try it..you can always leave...no one holds you there.
I just had to go to a group as I could not learn what I didn't know
I also kept sugar around. And I cannot tell you how having some phone numbers when I was needing to drink were vital
This crazy disease I have wanted me alone drunk and dead
I again cannot say how many times I tried to quit on my own, I would quit a day a week. Or one time I quit of 2 years I always went back. Only way I was able to get any good time was to deal with why I was drinking.
See the booze was what I used to remove me from me
I would be like an ostrich. I would stick my head in the sand and just check out. I would let the world just ravenge my backside and I would just booze I,t
There is a way out. Find a person who you can talk to and work, even if it makes you uncomfortable. Esp if it makes you uncomfortable
