Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I guess it's good to just give up the pretense that this is board is anything but an AA mouthpiece. I'll go the way of the rest of the non AA people now.

Right. A metaphor. Got it.
I think this post does not remotely intend to be intolerant of other methods. Need it be that we AAs always title these things "AA" just so that other members using other methods do not think we are particularly addressing them?
If so, the same signalling of method of recovery would apply for people who are not AAs taking part in discussion with AAs.
It could end up quite a mess.
We all need to get along whatever method works for us and just igore what we don't like if it is not something we want to discuss in the true spirit of discussion.
I wonder what the CLs think of this, the "rules of the road" provided by DS make a lot of sense to me and say similar.
I find AA is the most criticised here - a thread was parked yesterday because of it for further investigation by DS.
This is the real problem on this board - whatever your conviction - direct personal slight/character bashing and accusation of intention in the case of the closed discussion.
Insults are a not good ploy for any alcoholic who considers themself to be on a sober path.
I dont slate posts or people that talk about god. I just make the best use I can of everything and leave other people to do the same.
If I say I am in AA and talk about AA it doesnt mean I think all there is is AA . When I say I dont believe in god I am not attacking those that do.
Mostly things are about spriritual principles, in this case tolerance, which appy whether we are in AA or not and whether we believe in god or not.
No basis for argument.
If someone posted something about god with some quotes from the bible would this make the board a christian board?
A common problem could have a common tolerance - and a common respect for eachother.
c. Spamming (aka "sending unsolicited messages") to members about religion. Repeatedly posting religious passages (or anything else, for that matter) around the site is not appropriate.
Gailly, calling someone a coward hiding behind an avatar here, does that mean you are not a true AA member. Thank gooodness the only entry to membership is the desire to stop drinking and not just being kind otherwise there wouldn't be too many members and I wouldn't have veen 'accepted'. Fair dinkim many don't even know how their behaviour affects others when they come through the doors of AA.
AA isn't being criticised, rather one of two who seem to be obsessed with promoting it are turning people off. Many are leaving here because of the way it's being delivered. This includes AA members and those who 'were' considering AA.
Feedback I get is they feel they can't post here without hearing how they can't be a real alcoholic or mustn't be doing if right.Theprogram doesn't need promotion or defending. There is no right or wrong way, just a suggestion and a bloody good one and I'd encourage anyone to check out.
Speak of your own experience and let theprogram of AA and the attraction speak for itself. And to the lady who PMd me too afraid to post because she's hiding behind an avatar. Being anonymous here isn't 'hiding'. It helps people reach out and protects members privacy. We're an anonymous support site, not a recovery program. Let's help support and encourage people to open doors, not close them,
That way - those who object to AA being discussed here could just pass on by and not bother with the thread.
AA is very important to many of us because it saved our lives - sharing what worked for us is part of what we do. I don't see why sharing what worked for us upsets some people.
As I pointed out recently - I am not a Christian, but if someone wants to post something about what Christianity did for them - I don't see that as a problem nor does it threaten my sobriety.
I do consider myself a true AA member, that reference you are making is from the discussion you parked for review. That person is a coward, he/she put out a discussion for help and made repeated personal attacks on AAs who responded with good intent. I wonder if that person say those things face to face? Somehow I doubt it.
I think the whole discussion is there still for anyone to read if they look in "view all" mode.
If not, what kind of biased view are you putting across of me by referring to something you saw fit to close yourself?
If I ever feel that someone is annoying me, I still try to treat them with respect and fairness. But I won't let anyone walk all over me either.
I don't think you are in a position to speak for everyone, even as a CL, and you are not in a position to tell me personally what I should do as an AA - I have a sponsor for that.
I just wanted to know your view on how people might better treat each other and get along on here.
as for religion, i believe in Curtis and He lets me fight my own battles. He watched me lose many things in life....i have learned that He loves a good joke.
life is not that difficult........the difficult part is trying to makes sense of everything we can't comprehend. give a stranger 5 bucks and don't ask questions...........that is the secret.
