Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Funny AA is the last chance saloon for so many. It was for me, I couldn't accept or conceive of doing Step 1 but it was what I needed to do and when I was battered enough I did it.
It's all I have to offer from my own experience.
If you are an alcoholic you may be past the point where willpower alone is enough. The little bastard on your shoulder is also known as an obsession for alcohol. An obsession is an idea that can overcome all other ideas. You may be completely determined to stay sober and you have pitched your willpower against the urge to drink but as long as you have an obsession for alcohol you are likely to drink again.
It is by finding some means of removing the obsession that you will find long term sobriety. By using willpower alone you are engaged in a constant struggle whereas by removing the obsession the problem no longer exists. For me the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous has been the answer. I am not cured of alcoholism and one drink would bring me right back to that hell but as long as I follow the simple suggestions in the AA programme of recovery, I need never drink again.
Write a list of all the reasons you wanted to quit.
Remember the last time you thought you could have 1 beer and what happened.
REalize it is progressive..this time will be worse. I ended up in hospital. Currently my blood work is all off...eventually your organs will respond to the abuse we give them.
Remember you last withdrawal symptoms....that's enough for me not to pick up the first drink.
I like waking up everyday somewhat refreshed...and without the taste of the old alcohol in my mouth and the fogginess that lasts until I grab another beer.
Hope this helps.
