Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Your post brings back old memories and its good to be reminded. If I had made a list of the reasons why I thought I drank it would have been a long list and most of it would be other peoples fault. It was only when I lost control over alcohol that I learned that I drank as I did for only ONE reason and neither other people nor the bad cards that I imagined life had been dealing me had anything to do with it. The trouble is, if I had never gone to an AA meeting I never would have learned the truth about my drinking and if I did not know about the nature of the problem I would have continued to apply solutions that did not work.
When I had stopped drinking for brief periods before I was what is sometimes referred to as restless, irritable and discontented. I was not drinking but other people would have been wise to keep their distance. I would score ten from ten for being stubborn and prideful and I had a great belief in my own ability to fix things so why would I need help with a drinking problem. Well, the big guy up in the sky or wherever he resides probably had a good laugh as he said to himself: Ill give this one plenty of line and let him struggle with it for a while. Eventually the message got through that I could not fix it. I then considered seeing a counsellor but did not know how to do that without going through the local doctor and pride got in the way again. Eventually I admitted defeat and went to an AA meeting.
What you do is your business but that is what I did and it has been working for a few years now.
