Today is 14 days clean and sober. It seems like the thoughts of drinking have gotten more real, it's like my brain is trying to trick me. It is telling me I could handle it again. I know better! It's strange how this disease ties to fool you, making you think it would be ok to drink for a day and suddenly be back on track tomorrow. I had 10 years of sobriety, so I know all of the foolery the brain is capable of! Anyway onward to day 15. Sly

I had an awful time with my mind playing tricks on me when it came to drinking. I needed medication to smooth out the extreme ups and downs. Being stabilized helped so much in helping to put my drinking into perspective and allowed me to put it behind me with a bit of work. That is not to say my mind still doesn't runaway with me now and then, but nowhere near to the harmful degree it did. I can identify it as it just being my imagination running away from me much quicker nowadays.

Sly, congrats on 14 days clean, going on 15. Your brain, or your disease, will tell you it's okay - I can drink today and be on track tomorrow. You know that's not true. Even if you were able to do that, drink today and be on track tomorrow, somewhere down the road that brain tells you "I did it before, I can do it again." We know where that leads. Eventually it is the same ol' song and dance.

Thanks for the post Sly. good job on the day 10. Can I ask how in the world you got 10 years? And what was the chink in the armor that made you go back to drinking>

1is2many, I visited my dr. at the time and had serious issues with my liver. I decided then and there, drinkng was not worth dying for. I went to a 30 day outpatient program and got sober. I didn't drink for 8 years,slipped up for a few months after a divorce and then continued on for 2 more years. This last time I relapsed was because of a crazy woman who thought she would try to beat the shit out of me. She ended up falling in my bathroom in the process and beat the shit out of herself! lol She then ,18 hours later, called the police and put the blame
on me. The police arrested me for domestic violence without hearing my side of the story. I ended up winning the court battle, but in between the time I was arrested and the court date I started drinking again. I had so much stress, depression and anxiety, I didn't know howto deal with it, so I drank up until the court date. It took me about 14 days to get it shut off again. I'm now at 14 days sober again and drawing drom experience, refuse to go back. You could say i'm very stubborn and when I make up my mind to do.something, I do it, or in this case, I don't do it. Sly

Sly, Congratulations on your 8 years + 2 years + 15 days of clean and sober time. I can relate to the divorce and the subsequent she-devil thing.
