Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I know for myself that alcohol is a depressant and kept me isolated so I do understand that it is hard to turn things around. It can be done though, proof here, proof everywhere.
I doubt there's anyone who drinks heavily who isn't frequently a downer - just one of the many dark sides of Mr. Booze. As for the point of life? Everything and nothing. If I had that answer...well I'd be rich at least lol.
Whatever your issue with alcohol maybe, everyone here is helpful. .
Welcome....
I had an anxiety disorder when I sobered up. Panic attacks galore. But I could sit through a meeting of AA. The longer I stayed sober and the more I worked through the 12th Steps, the less the anxiety hit me. But what staying sober did was place me in a position to address the anxiety with a therapist/councilor.
You are not a downer. We "get" you. I wore the lampshade plenty during my drinking days. How about this. You don't have to drink today if you don't want to. With the gin, you may need medical supervision to detox. Get with your doc. Again, welcome! Hugs, Dianna
All I can tell you is that this time seven years ago I thought that my life was over. For a long time I sort of functioned as an alcoholic or at least I thought that I did at the time. Then, within a very short time the graph went into a vertical dip and I was in big trouble.
I am almost afraid to mention AA on this forum in case someone gets upset but it is what has worked for me. It was not just a matter of going to meetings though. It was suggested that I should get a sponsor who would show me what had worked for him and to my surprise it has worked for me too. The starting point was an acceptance that I could not drink safely and then a willingness to do whatever was necessary in order to get sober.
What you do is your own business but that is what has changed my life completely.
C'mon you can do this

YOU are not a downer. Addiction is a downer. You are certainly not alone. Pull up a chair and stay awhile, you are welcome here.
Welcome Kroft!
Here is a chair for you as well; my prayers and my support for both of you!
And a chair for you as well! Sending prayer, and support. You are not alone.
