Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...
i have though - found this one - which i have shared with many on this site, especially those in early recovery - kap.samhsa.gov/products/manuals/matrix/ppt/roadmap_for_recovery.ppt
The sugar addiction is so big in alkies as alcohol has so much sugar in it.
Yes, one addiction after another - Hats off to you my friend for quitting the nicotine and caffeine all together - your a braver man than I
Peace to you and I wish you the best of luck over the days when I am gone, but looking forward to the results when I return!
I was encouraged to eat candy to minimize my alcohol cravings-I do not think this is good advice.
It's just crazy for me with panic disorder to be drinking tons of coffee!
There's a site called www.mywayout.org that is real big on certain supplements to end cravings.
I bought some but then quit taling it..like L-Glutamine..which can work like a miracle.
I was a sweet-nick since I was like 11...and that's when all my problems started.
My dad was an alchie too...and it killed him.
It's time for me to wake up and smell the veggies! (not coffee, lol)
You guys are great..so grateful I found you.
I've given up my two biggest vices - drinking and smoking weed - March 1st will be two years with the alcohol and tomorrow is 3 weeks with no dope! I've been watching my diet pepsi intake as it seems to bother my stomach these days, and I don't do coffee.
Big Congrats to you! Hows it going so far?
A few years ago I read the South Beach Diet book which made so much sense and did it (of course cheated with alcohol) but found that the Dr who wrote it was right...after about 3 weeks of eliminating white from diet and all (or majority) of refined sugars I didn't experience the highs and lows of blood sugar reactions and did lose 10 lbs. Like everyone here been so focused on not drinking have allowed myself to eat sugar but that is my new goal now...
I've been trying to help my body in detox with supplements and drinking fresh home-made juice by the gallon. I'm ordering L-tryptophan for sleep and L-Glutamin . I'm taking a small amount of Niacin, which helps in the breakdown of alcohol. Although, I don't have much of an appetite, I'm trying to eat a high alkaline diet.
What are the supplements that you are taking that have noticeably reduced the cravings?
How are you doing without the nicotine and coffee? I would love to hear.
