Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...

well i just about blew it.... totally by accident... my son is living with us while the escrow closes on his soon to be his first home. well he is a drinker (thanks to my wonderful influence) and he asked if i would mind if he kept and drank beer in front of me.. i said yes as i haven't had a real urge to have a beer for along time.
well i got off work the other day and being a smoker, i don't smoke in the house so the garage is my sanctum. i have a fridge there that i keep jugs of water, my new beer,. i was hot tired and not thinkin, reached in for a water and purely out of habit, grabbed a beer, my favorite kind too, turned around with finger in the tab and just happened to look down and saw the beer!! holy crap i says to me... i put it back and got my water. my wife doesn't think i should forbid booze in the house, as i have to learn to be around people who drink (our boys and other friends oh yeah and her..)) she has codependency issues. i reckon she is right but i kinda wish she could give me a little more time sober.. oh well can't have everything...
i guess what i am saying is that out of pure habit/normality of the old me,, i could have stumbled and drank the beer ... it has happened before when i had quit for awhile.. and usually once i realize what i did, i would get totally pissed at me and of course continue to drink!!!! we all know that story... i honestly think if i would have taken that first drink i would have had the control to put it down and not kick myself tooo hard, thanks to the support and sharing from yall....
i just thought i would share, as it brought to mind bublygirls slip. she was able to get back on board, right quick without beating herself up... so thanks bubbly, and the rest of you.. duane

Glad you came back to the moment and realized you had a beer in your hand before you drank. Strange how we operate on automatic pilot sometimes. Fortunately, as times goes on, those habits that are so ingrained, like grabbing a beer or taking a sip of wine, are replaced by other (hopefully healthier) habits.

I've worried about that "auto-pilot" thing too. All of my friends are just so used to cracking a beer for me (they don't even ask) and handing it to me as soon as I'm in their house that I'm afraid I'll be talking and they'll hand it to me and I'll take a drink before I even realize what I'm doing! Isn't that awful! We have to always be on our toes now, don't we?

They say starting a new habit takes like 2 weeks but breaking an old habit takes like two months. Go to be on your guard in the early days

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
