Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...
I don't think it's a bad thing for now......in my opinion it should run it's course.
On a side note, I think though there is a fine line between exploitation and helping with this type of programming. I am not sold on that "celebrity rehab" being good, for example. I feel like it is almost a mockery of real addiction, and Dr. Drew is a flippin con man who poses as a caring guy, buying these celebrities ragged souls for his fame in the guise of "help". I do like that show Intervention though-and so far I feel like the interventionists are for the most part genuine. I feel like this show helps me stay centered and remember the hell. I thank these people for putting themselves out there, and really pray that they get and stay sober. I do hope that the show is not exploitive, but I am not sure.
To me, it helped me make the choice to become sober, rather than depress me or make me drink more etc, or have a negative impact on me. I wanted to see someone else's rock bottom's so I could make sure I never hit that point. I wanted control of my life before someone recruited me for a TV show too, you know? I dunno. I guess it just depends on how it makes you feel when you watch it....it made me feel stronger most of the time and like, "I can do this too and I won't be like that!"
