Hi everybody. I just joined and am so glad to have found you. I've really been struggling for a very long time in my group, just can't stand the contradictions anymore. However, I'm so afraid that my "defiance" will make me drink. I feel lost without doing what I'm used to, going to where I'm used to going for recovery. But at the same time, I feel like I'm dying in there (they say I'm just being terminally unique, self will run riot, and any number of other things). Anyone understand? Can I stay sober without them?

Yes you can. I'm living proof. Going on five years sober without any program. Don't let them scare you into thinking you can't do it on your own. I went to a few meetings at my 1 year mark just so I could be around others who don't drink, but stopped going after one woman went as far as to say you have to get a sponsor first, then follow the steps, then go to regular meetings in that order or you would fail. That's total bullshit and psychologically messes with you by putting the thought in your brain that you are allowed to "slip" if you don't follow their instructions because you'll have another chance to do it the "right" way next time. My opinion, anyway...Just know there are thousands of people out there who have been just as successful quitting drinking without AA.

Hi, I am new on here as well, 11 weeks abstinence I would like to tell you that it’s getting easier but it isn’t, haven’t joined any groups or counselling yet as I don’t know if I’d fit in

Hi, I check in occasionally when I feel weak. I'd like to find daily strength and sometimes I have to look harder to find it than other times. I wish I could just quit going to so many social events. Now that summer is here, and social season is in full swing, I have to deal with all these social drinkers. And this one is midweek when I have to skip my gym class which makes it even worse. Gotta keep strong.

Other side of the world so no one about I guess
I’m only drinking two glasses max of wine a day yet that’s going to kill me
40 years and counting
I have tried AA face to face
And I have just found it so depressing a real moan session and felt so down after attending meetings
I go two day three days then bam I drink not to get drunk just that lighter sensation
Can anyone relate
I tried to get natrexone into NZ
$500 later I chicken out couldn’t face my Doctor overbearing twat that he is oops sorry
I’m raving sorry

Ihave been reading posts and can relate which is good
I have never felt like I belonged
I am old enough to know
I am not alone with that feeling
I now have the courage to be disliked
I do not have to please people

I’m new
Tried AA meeting today
It was sober seniors
Idk if it’s right fit yet
But this group sounds better.
I’ll check in tomorrow
