A little over a week ago my husband picked me up and was obviously drunk. I begged him to let me drive and he refused, calling me vulgar names all the way home which was about a half hour drive. I was scared to death. When we finally got home I called 911 and the sheriff came and arrested him. He resisted arrest and is now in jail till May 25th. I have a restraining order out till Oct. 1st. Did I do the right thing? Now I'm feeling guilty and don't know if I should help him get bailed out. I'm told about tough love and to stop enabling him but it hurts so much to think he's in jail for 2 months. Do you think he could ever become a person who is cured and who I could have a life with again? I'm so lonely and don't know if I miss him or the person I had hoped he would be. Please give me any advice about what to do.
yes you did the only thing you can to help him. I was in the same spot as you several years ago, i bailed him out several times from jail only for days or weeks later to go right back there.. unfortunately we divorced 5 years ago and he has been sober ever since. and i still love him so very much but hard to get past the person he was. Keep your head up and dont feel guilty. Hes sick and i truly hope he seeks the help he needs for your family.
Thanks for replying. I've found a contact facility and my husband is still in jail and scheduled to have a phone intake interview. He says he wants to go. He's desperate to get out of jail and wanted me to bail him out and that he would go to AA meetings. I flat out told him no. Being sober for 2 weeks is not enough. This tough love sure is hard but I understand it much better now. And if he wants to get out of jail this is his only way out.
good for you. Its a long hard road that he has ahead but if he truly deep inside wants to be sober. he will be.
Its great that your getting support because thats the one thing i didnt do.. talked to ppl when he drank but after we divorced and he got sober i quit seeking help and my family has paid dearly for it. Good luck and any time you need to talk leave me a message.
My husband is now in a rehab facility in Florida. We live in North Carolina. He spent 3 weeks in jail and I think he was so desperate to get out that he would go anywhere. He's been there 9 days now and it will be a total of 4 weeks. He's expected to be released on May 12th. I still have the restraining order and don't know if I should take it off. He says if we're together we could both get in big trouble but I'm not sure if I should. I know he will be "good" for a couple of weeks but then what? We can't afford for him to get his own apartment and we would need another car too. Finances are the big issue or I would definitely go that route. Once I take the RO off and he's back to drinking I'll be in the same place I was before. Of course he promises me everything but I know it's a sickness and he could revert anytime, especially once he becomes comfortable at home. Well I have a little less than 3 weeks to make my decision. Any ideas/suggestions? Should I trust his word and take off the RO and allow him back?
why don't you get a lover/ boyfriend etc for yourself instead of allowing your husband back to your home to make you miserable again .. the boyfriend /lover whatever might help you emotionally more than you think ...and he might not be an alcoholic or addict.. I seen some guys in Alanon ... they are pretty nice guys most of them.. not most handsome but who gives a damn... nice personalities and gentle behaviors are a turn on for me in guys these days ... When I finally find a room mate for myself I will be in a "separated" status... divorce cost too much money... 2000 bucks divorce lawyer that would be my salary for one month....
