Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."
Fish, Moths & Butterflies
There was a moth inside the building at work and I was screaming my butt off and everyone thought I was joking. Sooo embarressing!!!
Please share all of them! No one will laugh!
So far no one else has the fear of balloons!??
And heights? No one else? I thought that was a common one. LOL
I am pretty afraid of heights, always feel like I might throw myself off but I know I won't. Sounds weird but alas it's true. No fear of balloons here, but I can see how they could disturb you. Sudden loud noise of them popping, never knowing if and when they will pop; totally valid fear. I've known quite a few people that are terrified of moths too, I think it may be because you can't control them and they just love to fly around your head and land on you, so yeah that's a bit freaky. I use to be afraid of the wind and thunder storms, but now I get excited like a 5 year old on Christmas Eve when the weather is bad, don't know how I managed that.
You want more of my fears? Sheesh where to start... K, I know it sounds horrible but I'm terrified of kids. I almost feel like they can tell what I'm thinking. What was that movie of the creepy blond haird kids who get taken over by alien intelligence? Yeah seriously kinda like that, lol! So no children in my future.
I'm also like you CLS I can't go anywhere on vacation or past certain "safe" distances from my house. This has been very hard as my family lives about 40 minutes from me. I feel really guilty about it because my Grandparents need help with grocery shopping and yard care, but now that I'm sick I can't do that for them anymore. It puts a lot of strain on my Mom so it makes me feel horrible.
What else... Dentists for sure, can't stand them, and unfortunately my teeth have suffered for it. Changing lightbulbs, I'm always afraid they'll explode in my hand or zap me. That is now my hubby's offical job around the house, lol. Food, I'm always afraid it's gone bad. I drive my hubby nuts always asking if it smells good or bad. Lets see what else... Gorge Bush, he's just freaky, hehehe. And I think I'll end this with velvet paintings, sooo scary on so many different levels, lol.
OK, that's it for now. Don't want to look too crazy to everyone. But I do have more, lol! ;oP
cls, I hate travel and air travel especially. For me it's not the terrorists or lightning storms as much as all the schedules, asking people what to do, sitting next to strangers, etc. -- all that fun stuff us socially anxious people hate!
KimT, I understand the kid thing! I'm not terrified but I always feel awkward around them, even kids I'm related to.
Elevators, being locked outside of my house, getting trapped in activities or situations I can not get out of.
Also: Flying, heights, being alone, thunderstorms (a hail storm last year knocked out all the windows in the back of my house).
