Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."

Thank you for reading my post, I appreciate any feedback I can get about this problem. It may not be a problem to some people but I have a hard time reading people's intentions, and I don't trust people for the most part. I have had social anxiety my whole life but I function pretty well with it, I don't do well in groups, but I do okay one-on-one. The issue I have is a larger one, I will probably write the entire thing on my journal. What I am wondering, is about what happened just in the last few days, which is, between me and a friend H, who is on my facebook page and I have not actually seen her in person since high school, but we have been messaging each other for about 5 years. About that time she said we should get together for coffee some time. We made a plan. At the last minute, she cancelled. We were actually in the middle of moving to a new house about an hour away, so I didn't think much of it for 5 years. Recently she brought up the idea again that we should meet for coffee or something, and I said, okay. I do go down there often, to the city. It is kind of a big deal but not a bad drive. Again, we made a plan, and then, at the last minute, she cancelled. I blew it off, and then yesterday she said, let's get together, and I said, okay, what is your schedule like? She said she was busy with work but what was my schedule? I said I was flexible and actually had free time this week but didn't know what was happening on the weekend. She said, well, she didn't know what her schedule was because someone at her work quit and she might have to cover their shifts. I said, let me know. My sister also does this thing where she answers a question with a question, and it drives me nuts, I have to physically do calming techniques when I talk to her so I don't sound like I am going to blow up. Does this person want to get together with me or not? I don't want to waste any more of my time thinking about this. I have been jerked around before. I just want peace in my life. Thank you!

Maybe not make a big deal out of this or turn a mole hill into a mountain. It's not a big deal.

Woops I mean don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. I don't see how this has to do anything with social anxiety. I'm sorry she did hurt you it would be bothersome but it is not a big deal and I have no idea how this fits in with social anxiety problems. It sounds like u know what to do and u have your feelings so do it.

I would probably try to make plans one more time, but I would add a comment about her not cancelling this time...I mean try to be tactful. I would just say "Now are you SURE that day will work and you won't have to cancel?" If she blows you off again, just let it go and forget about it. If you really like messaging her on Facebook that much then perhaps she is just meant to be a Facebook friend and nothing more and that is ok, huh?

here is the definition of social anxiety: Social anxiety is the fear of interaction with other people that brings on self-consciousness, feelings of being negatively judged and evaluated, and, as a result, leads to avoidance. Which you just did horsebackrider! so I will keep that in mind, because a huge piece of it is self-doubt. thank you for the supportive words, otherwise!

Sorry horsebackrider I just realized I offended you in another thread which I didn't mean to do. I will try to take more time in the future so that my responses come across more like I intend them. We are all here seeking some like-minded people for whatever reason, perhaps feeling very lonely and isolated existence. It's been said I come across as blunt and it is probably true but I don't mean to be insensitive. It is true we don't know what other people are thinking.

Thank u sweet friend kassala for your replies. They mean a lot and were nice. I was thinking more about your question u wrote here and I can understand how u r feeling social anxiety in this situation with this person. At first u weren't uncomfortable when she cancelled plans but as she did it more and more it's starting to make u feel uncomfortable. If I were u I would be direct with her and say it bothers me if u cancel all the time, once in a while it's ok but this is beginning to be too much, make sure she knows it bothers u. U may get a reason why this is happening then u can get some understanding and work it out with her. U can talk about this if this ever comes up. If u r nice about it your friend should be nice too and if she's not nice then u can think about what to do or u can just say to yourself this is how my friend is I can accept it, maybe it doesn't mean anything. U r not wrong to feel uncomfortable but u can talk about it or just accept or do what u think is best in this situation. I think u would know what to say u seem to be a nice person who can know what to do. If u ever have any more questions please let me know I'd love to help u and be here for u. I'm glad we were able to make up. I can see u r a nice caring person. Hugs and love and best wishes.
