Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."
Just because we do what we think it right, doesn't mean that we necesarrily get it back from the same people we are showing respect to.
None of us were raised in the same house with the same parents and values.
If a person is treating you disrespectfully and treats everyone else with great respect, you have a problem. Maybe you are hanging on too long to a bad relationship.
Now, if they treat everyone that way, they probably don't know better...and why do you want to hang with them anyway?
A great book, "The Four Agreements", helped me get over thinking that if I treat everyone the way I want to be treated I get the SAME back. NOT GONNA HAPPEN.
The Four Agreements is a fast read.
The Agreements are explained and they are as follows:
1) "Be impeccable with your word" Are you?
2) "Don't take anything personally" Easier said than done. But, in reality what comes out of someone's mouth is from them...their own issue and it's not about you.
3) "Don't make assumptions" We are not mind readers. And, would like everyone assuming all sorts of things about you?
4) "Always do your best" Ultimately, you are the person you can control the behavior of.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the book and I don't much like reading. I think it took only 1-2 afternoons to read.
Good Luck!
