Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."
I dont suffer from tourettes, but was friends with a young man who did and he went through a lot - the hardest part for him was having to meet new people and get past THEIR IGNORANCE.
I understand if you dont like people behind me. I always have to sit near a door and i dont like people directly behind me either.
It sounds like this could be daunting for you, and i understand your parents saying that you need to cope with this. They are doing it because they love you and because it would be easy for you to end up locked in your own private prison, keeping the world at bay.
Does the college have any kind of support for you - i assume its a mainstream college. Just a mentor, or somebodt to understand when you get frustrated.
It is a big step to start college, i really didnt want to go when i was younger, but a lot of that was fear that i would fail or make a fool of myself. If thats what you are worried about - dont - the majority of people will be feeling the same.
Is is different in colllege to high school. first the staff treat you like adults, and it is often a more relaxed set up.
If you are worried about new people accepting you, then i can also understand that.
if people are genuine they will see that you are a nice person, and once they get to know you they will be a good support network for you.
try it and see how you go,
if you give it a term and decide its not working then maybe use an alternative way but i think that a lot of your fears are really the same ones that a lot of people without your health problems will be having as well.
I am at uni and have social anxiety and when i started i organised to have an appointment with a counsellor who got me exam provisions so that i sit in my own room for exams because i hate having people sit behind me aswell. I also struggle with feeling anxious in class and meeting new people and last year i moved into a share house with other uni students to challenge myself which i am still doing. I feel anxious everyday so i know what its like. People are more accepting at uni than high school and im sure you will meet people who will accept you for who you are and if at first you dont keep putting yourself out there until you do. Good luck!
