Hello. I'm a 55 year old guy in the Midwest USA who, since his divorce almost five years ago, has generally dated much younger women. The women I've dated range in age from 24 to 41 years of age.

There are reasons why I've done this. Some of those reasons might be obvious, but some? Some, I'm still trying to figure out myself. It would be much easier to date someone my own age. There are plenty of nice women available in that age group, we'd have more in common, etc. But women my age tend to remind me of my mom. It may have to do with my unhappy marriage. Now that I'm free, I feel like someone 35 years of age, not 55. It might be my attitude - I don't look (so I'm told), act or think like most guys my age. It might be that, for some unknown reason, some younger women have found me interesting. I don't know.

What I do know is that relationships like this have some pretty major ups and downs. I started this group to address some of these issues. If you have a thought, question or idea, jump in. And please, let your friends who may be dealing with this issue know about this new group.

Despite you saying this is for people dating someone 10 years or more apart I joined anyway. I'm member #2. My guy is 7 years older than me, but sometimes he acts like it's more. I'll get into that later.

You're right and thanks for joining. Sometimes age gap can be more about attitude than chronological age. One lady I see is over 30 years younger than I, but she is quite mature and is the one who began pursuing me. Another person is closer in age to me but is just strange about age matters. One of the things I have difficulty with is that, many women my age want to spend the whole time talking about their kids and grandkids. Don't get me wrong - I am very proud of my daughters, but I also want to know about that person, and make sure that person has a life of their own. Anyway...let's get some others to join us.

Thanks for inviting me. I just turned 43 and my husband is 42. We married when we were 27 and 36. It's been an interesting 16 years of marriage. We have had some interesting reactions to our relationship. A few people thought I was his daughter when I was younger! Hee, hee, hee. (I did look young for my age and he turned grey early.) And lately, health issues of his have been causing issues. But overall, I think our sense of agelessness and attitude toward life make us a good match and we've been a good balance for each other. Which is really more important than chronological numbers anyway.

I've always liked older men, their usually about 12-17 years age difference. My current boyfriend is 65 and it's too old for me, that sometimes I get grossed out when were having sex. I'm 39.

i know someone whose father was 23 years older than his mother. it was his only successful marriage. he was married 4 times. when he son married someone 3 years younger than him, he father was horrified and insisted it can't work. they actually got divorced 13 years later. if his father had still been alive, he would have said i told you so.

i know others who's wives are always 4 years older than themself. 4 years. it has to be four years. lol. to be honest every man i've met with a wife 4 years older than themself HAS been happily married and stayed married.

just thought i'd add something, after reading the posts. during college, a lot of people who were not at all happy with their social lives and felt they were sitting home all the time doing nothing, when they went outside of the traditional age groups for dating, suddenly they were full of dates and had lots of options. i don't think numbers matter at all, its what you have in common in values and interests and how you see the world, etc., that determines whether it would click or not.
