This group is for those who: (1.) may be people like me, who have spent time seeking God through involvement in church and religion, and/or personal study and for some reason still find themselves confused and hurting, (2.) those who think they may be in a cult/or those coming out of a cult and are in need of support without the fear of being controlled and manipulated,...
ROGER THE MINISTER - REASON FOR THE SEASON
luk 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
I am not Lutheran, but I think his testimony is amazing
I hope I am not scaring you! I simply am sharing with you what my own experience has been, in hopes that it might shed some light on your own situation. I myself was extremely scrupulous, and for a long, long time. I am currently reading a book titled "Healing the Shame that Binds You" by John Bradshaw and according to him, these types of behaviors are rooted in what he calls "toxic shame," which is sadly what many of us experience in church or in our religious families...not the way God intended it to be, I believe.
I wish you the best of luck in finding help and healing for your boy.
1. The result of improper/inappropriate religious training
2. A symptom of emerging psychiatric condition
The therapist absolutely needs to know (and I wonder WHY the therapist DOES NOT KNOW - who is this therapist and how competent is s/he?) Religious fixation (especially involving Satan, demonic involvement, etc.) that requires a bona fide exorcist (from the Roman Catholic church) FIRST requires in depth psychiatric evaluation which takes time. Bringing in anyone who claims to be able to deal with this from any religious context without the scrupulous examination of possible cause IS A HUGE ERROR.
Whatever age your child is, if it were my child I would go to a child psychiatrist. I would request a thorough evaluation (this involves written "testing" with multiple choice answers, sounds like a waste of time but these tests are carefully designed and they DO facilitate diagnosis). If your child is found to be in the early stages of a serious psychiatric condition, medication CAN prevent it from fully emerging. In Britain, young children suffering from behavioral disorders that test as pre-schizophrenic are medicated and the incidents of adult schizophrenia in Britain are far below those in the USA because of this.
