Afraid and Confused about God Community Group
This group is for those who: (1.) may be people like me, who have spent time seeking God through involvement in church and religion, and/or personal study and for some reason still find themselves confused and hurting, (2.) those who think they may be in a cult/or those coming out of a cult and are in need of support without the fear of being controlled and manipulated,...
Well needless to say I tried it out and was amazed how uncomfortable I was. The people were very cold and distant despite my attempts to smile and be friendly to them I was pretty much ignored, until the preacher commanded everyone to greet eachother and have fellowship with one another during worship service.
I believe this is the standard practice for Baptist churches to "have fellowship" during service but when people came up to me they were very cold and seemed to dislike having to talk to me. I mean really if you don't like me or if I am giving off a bad vibe you dont have to talk to me I won't be offended, but to purposely come to me to be rude is just weird! I'm sorry I never want to make anyone feel uncomfortable but after that incident happened I was looking for the exit door hoping this nightmare would be over soon!
If this wasn't bad enough they gave me a 29 page pamphlet explaining why I must give money to their church and their service was centered on stingy people that do not give enough money to their church!
I made the mistake of giving my contact information to the professional greeters at their church, well a few days later the parent church called me and a very stern sounding lady said I needed to meet with their main campus church so they can get to know me better! Her voice was very creepy and I didn't feel like they wanted to get to know me it felt like they were nosey and wanted to schedule a formal meeting with them soon!
Well needless to say I declined their demand to meet them and apologized to them because I don't worship their money God. I know I shouldn't have said that but they were so fixated on money as opposed to reaching out to people and welcoming them to their church. I thought that was the main purpose of churches for people to gather as family and search out the Divine we belive is watching over us.
Thankfully I haven't heard from them since but I do feel bad for my coworker because he seems happy there. I thanked him for inviting me but I didn't tell him what I had done or what I thought about the church he goes to.
I just hope he is safe and happy, because in my opinion, this church has too many red flags that makes me feel like it is a cult church and I need to stay as far away from it as I can!
