sore throbbing tooth

I think I may have an infected tooth. I have been using eugenol for pain which seems to be the only thing that helps. I am worried that if I go get it pulled, I won't get any pain relief because I use to have a problem with narcotic pain killers (clean 4 years plus) and I can't take nsaids due to kidney problems.

Any suggestions?

Make sure you see a dentist asap b/c they can give you antibiotics to clear the infection (if you have one) asap. The infection might be a huge factor in the pain.
Also, tell him/her about your concerns with pain medicine. They can give you a mouth wash that has novicane in it. A friend of mine has problems with pain medicine making him really ill and he has a tooth problem as well. He told me the dentist gave him the mouth wash and it has been really helping him.
Tooth pain is probably the worst (and sadly I know that pain too well) and I've learned the hard way that it only gets far worse (and usually more expensive) the longer you put off going to the dentist.

CONGRATS!!! FOUR YEARS IS AWESOME!!! Generally the pain from an infected tooth comes from the inflamation pushing on the bone. Since bone doesn't give like soft tissue does the pain is generally greater. i would definitely get it checked and if it is infected, get on some antibiotics ASAP. I think if you are 100% honest with your dentist re: your concerns, he should be able to help you formulate a plan to prevent a relapse. I think ice works better than any narcotic for the pain of a tooth removed. If the dentist understands your concerns, he should be able to help you get it resolved... if he can't, find a different dentist. Good luck!
