How do we know if we have misaligned bites?

When we bite down, it should (hopefully) feel natural. But how do we know if, when we bite down, our teeth are really aligned correctly?

Misaligned bites can stress your teeth and muscles. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Yep, my teeth seem to meet well but it puts my lower jaw back a tad too far.

Now I have lost so many of my back teeth, there's no way to align them.

I was diagnosed with TMJ disorder and over the years have lost teeth because of the grinding.
In addition, I am concerned that since having a Reclast Infusion for Ostioprosis in January.. I have noticed more jaw pain as well.

I read where the Infusion can casue terrible jaw and tooth degeneration.. wondered if anyone else has had Reclast or heard of this problem

My daughter has/had a terrible cross bite. She started having problems with her teeth just before she turned 2. She fell & damaged the 2 front teeth on top. She had root canals on both. Then she fell & broke 1 or we had a crown put on. She has had MANY retainers. She had a bridge. The retainers helped with the cross bite but now at 17, she has braces. We have spent a small fortune on her teeth. She better take care of them.

I would simply ask your dentist, they should be able to examine you and determine if your bite is correct or not :)

I never knew I had problems with my bite, but earlier this year I started having some pain in my lower front teeth. Turns out the pain was from a combination of clenching my teeth at night, and a deep bite which causes my bottom front teeth to hit the back of my top teeth when I bite down. This was causing my bottom teeth to chip, and my top teeth were "polished" smooth where the bottom teeth were hitting them!

Now I have Invisalign to fix the bite issues, and once that's done I assume I'll need some sort of mouthguard to help with the teeth clenching. I don't have TMJ yet but I'm sure I could develop it in the future if I'm not proactive now!

If when you slowely bring your teeth together make a mental note as to where your teeth hit first.. Now when your teeth meet press harder together..do they slide into place? If you can feel your teeth slide into a place then you difenitely need to have your occlusion checked.. If your teeth hit on one side before the other side then you need an occlusion adjustment also.. The only SURE way to know if your bite is right is to go to your DDS. to have it checked because a bite that is off can cause you pain and muscle spasms that will lend itself to TMJ..
