My parents divorce after 34 years of marriage and my 87 year old father saying that he finally left because he "didn't feel safe," woke me up. It woke me up.
Also doing something way out of my character also woke me up. Thank gawd for the grounded people in your life, can I get an amen? Amen!
I married a very controlling abusive person.
I've started to look for a new place to live and it's tough at any age but when you get older and you have little money but things are starting to take of proffesionally... it's a lot.
It's sad.
My husband's parents both died 3 years ago. His Dad died first and his Mom died 5 months later. Before all of that he broke his leg due to having low blood sugar because he's a type 1 diabetic.
I have always thought of myself as a very independent person but it's crazy to read about codependency and be like, oh physical ailments can also keep some dependant.
On top of that I have been a caregiver for over two decades. And I finally quit!
My parent's marriage was toxic from the start and I missed the signs that mine was becoming, too.
I'm looking forward to the space I'll have next month.
I'm so glad that you're making the effort to leave a toxic relationship and take care of yourself. It's not easy, especially when the someone is codependent, whether it be you or the other person.
I hope everything works out! <3
