and when we get it, we don't want it anymore. Example: Years ago, I dated this girl who I loved very much!We had alot in common. We were together for about 2 years. She wanted to get married, but I didn't, so she found someone else. I chased after her and she came back to me. I asked her to marry me this time and she said, "
alright, I'll marry you Bob!" But then I changed my mind again.
I married someone who was my complete opposite and have lived a life of depression, drug addiction, and alcoholism.
Great discussions here, Jim, adult child, i was a people pleaser, wanted the attention, stayed in disfunctuional relationships, because i ws disfunctuional myself! Lol... I have 2 sponsors to work on these issues, and have been in theray.. its ahrd work.. u have to take a real hard look at yourself.. and sometimes it isnt pretty..p.s i was a good manipulator also,, dinz
It start in childhood, never knew what kind of mood my dad would come home, then the sat nights he spent st VFW... He never admitted to alcoholism, SAD..
Bob, I forgot. Human kind always obsesses about getting instant gratification. Yet, when we have it, be it a new car, a new shirt, a new house or a new relationship partner, we are happy only for the moment. Human kind does not seem to believe it needs to work hard before theyeserve long term gratification. That is called delayed gratification.
People don't realize they can buy major stuff, like a car or a home, at about half the price we all pay because we need to borrow money to buy it. If we sacrifice and save up so we can pay in cash in one lump, we actually save about half the cost.
I can write quite a sermon on the theme: God's will is only done in heaven. Here on earth Evil rules. Evil uses the human compulsion for instant gratification to control humankind and to keep individuals from achieveing everlasting joy. We will hurt others to get that better job or that bigger SUV. Instant gratification is what selfishness is all about.
We really believe we deserve better than we have, but are unwilling, in general, to do the work necessary to get what we want. Some simply steal and or use street drugs to get the feeling of instant gratification.
Having a perfect afterlife is the ultimate delayed gratification, yet few of us are willing to do try the lifestyle we are told is necessary to achieve it. That is too hard and takes too long. LOL
How many people are aware that US citizens are the only people on earth who need to rent storage lockers so we have a place to put stuff we own but but did not bring us happiness. We need the extra space because our garages are already full and we don't have room and our latest try, a $60,000 SUV, which is sitting outside the garage in the rain.
End of sermon.
It's good to know that it gets easier, the risk taking that is. Thanks Bob, I needed to hear that!
Love is what wr all want ... we forget live can come for us within us for us.
