Adult Children of Alcoholics Community Group
A Support Group for Adult Children of Alcoholics
New here but need to start dealing...
Hi everyone,
I'm admittedly new to this group, but Im a 26 year old woman who has grown up with a high-functioning alcoholic father, though I feel like the high functioning piece has kind of been going away as time has progressed. I've suffered from depression and anxiety for years, struggle with my own romantic relationships, etc. I've read about ACoA for years now and never really gotten involved.... kind of always made the excuse not to. I've been in therapy consistently for six years now so it's not that I'm not dealing with it at all, but I think I deal with it in therapy in the context of a lot of other things in my life too.
I'm living outside the US for work right now, so I've been using Talkspace instead of tradtional therapy, which I think has been really good based on the situation. But the more and more I talk about my family the more and more keeps coming back up about my dad and his alcoholism.
I guess I'm just looking for some sort of support from the ACoA community since I don't really know a ton of what it's about and it's harder to get involved when I'm not at home in the US. I've read the laundry list before and so many parts of it describe me so well. The truth is I just hold on to so much pain from so many things, and I do my best to work thru it but still keep cycling back to the point that all I feel is hurt by it. Sooooo with that in mind, i guess I'd appreciate any sort of discussion about how to sort of try to use some of the ACoA tenants or activities from afar to try to give more attention to my healing.

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

God Bless
